Virginia Woolf spent her childhood summers at Talland House, St. Ives,
where she could look from the living-room windows out to the historic
Godrevy Lighthouse.  While the lighthouse itself is not under
threat, a proposal is currently being considered to switch off its
light permanently in 2010, on the grounds that new navigational aids
will render it obsolete.
